Terce at Irondale up and running

I've been working on an amazing music theater project called Terce. Composed by Heather Christian. It's running thu Feb 4th at The Space at Irondale in Fort Green. I built some percussion instruments for it and am performing in the band. It’s a gorgeous show. Link here. Terce

It's been a while...

Full confession, I have been very remiss keeping the news up to date. So, here are some highlights of what I have been up to for say the last…3 years. Fear not, I’ve been busy, composing, performing, learning new things, building, teaching and gardening! Many things on the burner for 2020 so please stay tuned!

My interactive sound installation Melting was included in the InVitro:Artificial Sonification exhibition in Matera, Italy in September 2019. The exhibition was part of the Matera 2019 Capital of Culture programming. So honored to have my work included along with 10 other international artists. What an magical and amazing place Matera is. Check the Installations page of my site for photos from that exhibit.

The Weird Wednesday ensemble did some fun gigs in the summer of 2018 both in the city and upstate. Such fun playing with instrument inventor/builder/musicians Daniel Jodocy, Ken Butler and Ed Potokar.

I did an amazing week long residency back in February 2018 at the University of Illinois through the Unit One program. We spent the week talking about sound, listening and building instruments and sound makers. Good times!

Even further back in the fall of 2017 I had the privilege of collaborating with choreographer Karole Armitage writing a few pieces for her new ballet Halloween Unleashed. The piece premiered at LaMama in NYC in October 2017. I composed a piece for this using all kinds of animal bones I collected from the woods upstate. Don’t worry, I did scrub them clean first. They make great sounds!

"Melting" Sound installation at SVA Flatiron Gallery Oct. 20-Nov. 21

My sound installation “Melting” will be on exhibit at SVA Flatiron Gallery for a month as part of the Fall 2018 Exhibition - Left to Devices.

The piece is an interactive sound installation and is part of my Sonified Geography series. The series looks at the effect of human habitation on the natural environment through found objects and found sounds.

Residency at the Hurleyville Makers Lab - February and March 2017

Super excited to announce that I'll be an artist in residence at the Hurleyville Makers Lab for February and March. I'll be designing and building some new sound controllers and working on a community based sonic mapping project. The project will involve soliciting audio files, recorded in the Sullivan/Delaware county area, from the community to use in the project...stayed tuned for details. See you at the Pickled Owl.
